Ecig Report Released by FDA

Yesterday was not a good day for the electric cigarette industry in the United States, as the news media seems to be incorrectly reporting that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has officially declared the electric cigarette harmful!

Reading the news stories, like this one at CNN offer us very little actual “news” or information about what’s actually in this FDA report, and they give no way to find out any more information. It’s an editorial, disguised as news!

They say claim this, for example –
The FDA is concerned about the safety of these products and how they are marketed to the public,” said Dr. Margaret A. Hamburg, commissioner of the FDA.

Okay, and those concerns are?

The FDA’s Division of Pharmaceutical Analysis analyzed the ingredients in a small sample of cartridges from two leading brands of e-cigarettes.

In releasing its information, the FDA did not identify the two companies, but said in one sample, diethylene glycol — a chemical used in antifreeze that is toxic to humans — was detected.

Now we’re getting somewhere – those are FACTS – okay. So this means that in all of the other samples none of that antifreeze ingredient was found? But you won’t tell us what that one brand is? gee, thanks for the “protection” Uncle Sam.

Other samples detected carcinogens that are dangerous to those who smoke them, the FDA said.

Umm, okay great – “carcinogens that are dangerous to those who smoke them”? Really? That sounds pretty ominous, but…

1. They’re not being “smoked”. It’s vapor. Nothing burns, and there’s no tobacco.
2. What are these carcinogens, and are they the same ones, or are they different than traditional cigarettes which ARE “smoked”?
3. How high is the level of these carcinogens? High enough to be dangerous?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the air that we breathe and the water that we drink have chemicals that are “toxic to humans”? Doesn’t all depend on the concentration levels?

Where exactly were these findings “released? I want a copy of the FDA’s Division of Pharmaceutical Analysis report, and will update this blog when I find one, i promise.

Sure I’m admittedly biased, since I use these smokeless cigarettes, and I sell ’em too, but I LIKE ’em! Isn’t that my right?

I have the freedom to drink myself to death with liver failure, and I can smoke cigarettes until I get lung cancer, but I can’t choose this alternative because “some of the products might have a level of chemical that could possibly harm me”? (That’s IF of course, we knew what theye were? )

We KNOW cigarettes will kill you.

We HAVE an alternative method of nicotine delivery for those of us poor addicted souls.

There ARE tens of thousands of these devices in use by consumers

MANY people claim they are breathing better

MANY people claim they are smoking less

MANY people claim their allergies have improved

MANY people claim they aren’t suffering as much from their asthma

MANY people have completely cut out “real” cigarettes and are feeling healthier for it.

NOWHERE in that story, does it offer ANY of that information!
Isn’t this the United States of America where we have freedom to choose what we want to do?

Oh no, wait, I forgot, it’s the United States of Corruption where just like big oil, big tobacco money can buy the congressman to force regulation of anything that is cutting into their profits. Tobacco HATES these, because technology will enable millions to stop buying their poison.

Is all that REALLY not worth mentioning, CNN, in your “news” report?
I think corrupted authors must be getting paid to whip up a frenzy against these devices that so many people like.

After coming out of nowhere, the electric cigarette business has now become $100 million industry in the past year because people want them. We owe it to our citizens to have the FDA investigate, but they MUST publish the true facts thene and allow us to decide for ourselves.

Other equally uninformative and one-sided “news” reports are suddenly at USA today, the New York Times , Boston Globe, and the LA timesDoesn’t anyone see a pattern here?

Even MSNBC got in on the act with this video last night…

I do want to know more about what these smokeless cigarettes MIGHT be doing to me, but with all of the legal vices out there, this one sure seems to me to my least harmful so far! If they make them “illegal”, they’ll have to pry mine from my cold dead lips.
